Japan Society members are invited to the closing event and prize giving for this year’s Members Art Exhibition, kindly hosted by the Embassy of Japan.
Before the formal prize-giving and announcement of the winning piece of artwork, Yoon Heechang (Tama Art University) and Tamiko O’Brien (Camberwell College of Art) will compare notes on their experiences of space.
Yoon Heechang was born in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan in 1963. His work has consistently focused on installations featuring arrangements of rectangular ceramic blocks. These involve not only firing the clay and creating each piece, but also incorporating each piece into the installation in a way that inquires both into the “existence of the thing” and into the relationships between objects, spaces, and people.
Tamiko O’Brien studied Fine Art at North East London Polytechnic and graduated with an MA in Sculpture from Chelsea College of Art, London in 1988, she is currently Associate Dean of College, Camberwell College of Art, University of the Arts London
The announcement of the winner and prize-giving will take place in a drinks reception following this discussion.
The Japan Society is very grateful to the Embassy of Japan for hosting the exhibition Rising Star Games and Suntory for its support of this exhibition. The winner will receive a Nintendo Wii games Console with selection of games courtesy of Rising Star Games, and the runner up a bottle of Hibiki 12 yo whisky courtesy of Suntory.
In reaching its decision, the judging panel will take into account the audience vote. If you have not yet visited the exhibition and voted for your favorite, please do so before 5.00pm on Monday 24th May 2010.
It is essential that all those planning to attend this event register in advance by email to exhibition@LD.MOFA.GO.JP by Monday 24th May 2010. Please give your name, email address and telephone number within the body of your message and mention that you are a member of the Japan Society.
