Steve Biddle is an author, entertainer and origami expert; he has studied in Japan with top Japanese Origami masters, thereby acquiring a deep knowledge of a subject that has always fascinated him.  Steve is a member of the British Origami Society, the Nippon Origami Association, The Japan Society and The Magic Circle, holding the degree of Associate of The Inner Magic Circle with Silver Star.

Besides present paper-folding workshops worldwide, Steve has appeared on many prestigious television programmes such a s Blue Peter, Generation Game and Record Breakers.  Along with his partner, Megumi, he had been the presenter of a weekly programme ‘Origami’ for the Children’s Channel and ‘Fold-A-Saurus’ (Channel 4). Together they have produced many highly successful craft books for children and adults, including Amazing Origami, Step-by-Step Origami, The New Origami, Paper Creations, Paperz Fold it and a picture book – The Crane’s gift.  One of their most recent publications is Origami Inspired by Japanese Prints, produced by the Metropolitan Museum of Art , New York and published by Viking in the USA and The British Museum Publications in the UK.

Are you Looking for an Author?

Steve is an author of over thirty books on origami, paper arts and traditional Japanese stories.  Be an author is a programme that covers the writing process and provides information on how to illustrate a book.  The participants will learn where an author’s ideas come from, embellished with examples from Steve’s own publications.  They will create folded paper book; illustrate it with systematic diagrams of an easy origami fold and learn how to write clear, concise directional text to accompany the fold.

Japan

There is no doubt that a unit of work on Japan will be enhanced by the visit of someone with first-hand knowledge of the country and the ability to share a particular skill.  If your school is doing a project on Japan or you simple wish to add a multicultural dimension to your regular teaching, then Steve is able to provide your pupils with a first-hand experience of a unique part of Japanese culture – Origami – paper-folding.  Over the course of four years, he studied in Japan with top Japanese Origami masters, thereby acquiring a deep knowledge of a subject that has always fascinated him.  The programme comes with a range in everyday life.  It provides the participants a chance to fold origami and most importantly, they will learn about Japan from the inside out.

Origami Maths

Whether you are an artist or a scientist, the geometry in this programme will help get you into mathematical shape.  It consists of folding several simple paper shapes and fitting them all together to make a more complex construction.  With a dozen or so modules, it is not too difficult to build a solid geometrical figure.  With Origami Maths, the students will fold an amazing world of wonder that is full of creative and practical surprises.
