Heidi Potter, Japan Society CEO, receives Japanese Government Award
We are delighted to share the news that the Japanese Government has awarded Heidi Potter, Japan Society CEO, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays for her contribution to enhancing Japan-UK exchange, friendship and mutual understanding. The award was announced on 29 April as part of the 2016 Spring Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals.
The award, which in particular recognises Heidi’s work in developing bilateral ties in education, was conferred by Ambassador Koji Tsuruoka on 13 September 2016.
‘Ms Potter has done a great deal to nurture bilateral ties at the grassroots level via cultural and educational exchange. The Japan Society has thus benefited greatly from her experience at Japan 21, when she organised various education-related activities to promote teaching about Japan at primary and secondary schools in the UK as well as supplying information related to Japan. Moreover, the presence in the Japan Society of a number of people with professional educational backgrounds has had a positive impact on the Society’s grassroots-level initiatives in this field. Among Ms Potter’s other contributions, one can cite her role in Japan Matsuri, the annual Japanese festival in London which attracted 70,000 participants in 2015, and for which the Japan Society is one of the management partners.’
Many congratulations to Heidi on this very well-deserved award.Share
