Hiroko Sue
Hiroko Sue was born in Yamanashi in Japan. She started to learn the piano at the age of 5, but four years later, inspired by an elderly musician, she turned to the Koto, a traditional Japanese instrument with 13 strings. She studied the Ikuta-style of Koto with the eminent Akiko Yazaki at the Department of Traditional Japanese Music, at Tokyo Geidai-Japan’s distinguished University of Arts and Music from 1990-1994.

After graduating, she embarked on her career as a professional musician. She took part in the Korea-Japan International Youth Exchange organized by the Japanese and Korean governments and gave a series of concerts in 1998. Since then she has performed extensively in the Far East as well as in Europe, notably in Spain, France and Slovakia. She continued her studies, learning composition with the composer Akinori Ohsawa in Japan.

In 2002 she came to London and has performed extensively in concerts and festivals around the U.K. She moved to Cardiff ,in 2003 to study Music Therapy at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and graduated as a professional Music Therapist in 2006.

During her time in Cardiff she has given several performances at the Wales Millennium Centre, at The Gate arts Centre etc..

In 2006, she performed in the presence of Their Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall at the royal opening of the George Thomas Hospice in Cardiff.

With her strong belief in the therapeutic value of music Hiroko has given many concerts in aid of leading health charities as well as hospitals and Day Centres for the elderly and adults with learning difficulties.
