The Japan Foundation presents the eighth lecture in its “Movers and Shapers: Japan – UK Relations” series
with a seminar looking at the Japanese naturalist Minakata Kumagusu (1867-1941). Kumagusu is now regarded as a pioneer of comparative folklore studies, religious studies, history of science, as well as conservation of nature. This lecture explains his unique life and thought, focusing on his London days. The lecture will be delivered by Professor Ryugo Matsui, an associate professor of the Faculty of Intercultural Studies at Ryukoku University, Japan and will be followed by a drinks reception at which Japanese saké will be served.
