The Guest of Honour at the first joint lunch of the year will be Dr Bernard Bulkin. Dr Bulkin, who was BP’s Chief Scientist and Vice President for Environmental Affairs until 2003, will discuss this highly topical question which has immense relevance to us all.

As BP’s Vice President for Environment Affairs, he developed BP’s clean fuels and climate change strategies. He helped to develop BP’s thinking about what sustainability means to an extractive company and about the related organisation demands. He is a Professorial Fellow at Cambridge University, serves as a Commissioner for Energy and Transport at the UK Sustainable Development Commission and has been the host of the Environment on the Edge talk radio series. Mr Bulkin was recently appointed as Chair of the Office of Renewable Energy Deployment (ORED) in the United Kingdom.

The mission of Dr Bulkin’s company VantagePoint Venture Partners is to fund the transformative companies of the 21st Century by providing resources to cutting edge technology. It has some $4.5 Billion of committed capital and has made substantial investments across a range of alternative energy technologies in the US, Europe  and Asia.It will be very interesting to hear what he has to say.

The National Liberal Club has lovely big rooms and is very convenient for travel. Drinks will be served from 12.30 to 1.00 pm in the library, which is on the first floor; the lunch will be at tables of 10 in The Lloyd George Room.
