This thrilling new score from Nitin Sawhney is performed live by the London Symphony Orchestra to Japanese director Mikio Naruse’s 1933 cutting-edge silent film Nightly Dreams.
Sumiko Kurishima stars in this powerful domestic drama as Omitsu, a barmaid and single parent long-estranged from her irresponsible husband (Tatsuo Saito). When he suddenly returns without notice, she does everything in her power to pull her family together.
Esteemed director Mikio Naruse is counted amongst the great Japanese classical masters of cinema, alongside with Kurosawa, Mizoguchi and Ozu. His Yogoto No Yume made repeated use of montage, a fractured chronology, and frequent close-ups.
Following on from Sawhney’s sell-out A Throw of Dice (1929) in 2006, this is an unmissable opportunity to see a masterpiece of the Japanese silent film era, scored by one of today’s most celebrated composers.
