1. Coordinating a wide range of events to engage the diverse membership:
- Arts & Culture.
- Business.
- Education.
- Lecture.
- Lifestyle.
- Special Events.
2. Supporting schools teaching about Japan:
- Teaching materials and general advice service.
- Japan in Your Classroom visits to schools by Japanese volunteers.
- Support for school links, including the Japan UK LIVE! website.
- Teacher in-service training (INSET) days.
- Connecting schools to experts with Japan-related skills.
- Organising ad hoc programmes of school-based workshops & residencies.
3. Offering small grants for educational and grassroots projects in the UK:
- Maxiumum £1,000.
- Rolling programme with no application deadlines.
- Providing a forum for exchange between the Japanese and local communities.
4. Publishing and reviewing books and periodicals:
- The Japan Society Proceedings.
- The Japan Society Review.
- Other publications (eg Britain & the ‘Re-opening’ of Japan, Biographical Portraits series).
5. Maintaining an outstanding library.
