1. Coordinating a wide range of events to engage the diverse membership:

• Arts & Culture.
• Business.
• Education.
• Lecture.
• Lifestyle.
• Special Events.

2. Supporting schools teaching about Japan:

• Teaching materials and general advice service.
• Japan in Your Classroom visits to schools by Japanese volunteers.
• Support for school links, including the Japan UK LIVE! website.
• Teacher in-service training (INSET) days.
• Connecting schools to experts with Japan-related skills.
• Organising ad hoc programmes of school-based workshops & residencies.

3. Offering small grants for educational and grassroots projects in the UK:

• Maxiumum £1,000.
• Rolling programme with no application deadlines.
• Providing a forum for exchange between the Japanese and local communities.

4. Publishing and reviewing books and periodicals:

• The Japan Society Proceedings.
• The Japan Society Review.
• Other publications (eg Britain & the ‘Re-opening’ of Japan, Biographical Portraits series).

5. Maintaining an outstanding library.
