HYPER JAPAN is the biggest Japanese event in the UK this year, and will introduce everything from traditional culture to subculture and also Japanese food.
This event will be held to aid the earthquake afflicted area and people, and its slogan is ‘日本を元気に！ Genki Giving!’ Genki means energy, vitality and strength.
Part of the profits from sales will be donated to earthquake relief in the Tohoku area.
The Eat-Japan Food Court was one of the most popular areas at HYPER JAPAN last year, and it’s back, bigger and better, for 2011.
This year, we’ ve got the Eat-Japan Sushi Awards 2011: UK Sushi Roll Championship, where five great Japanese restaurants will each be producing a “maki” sushi roll for your delectation. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, head to the stalls selling traditional Japanese sweets or Japanese snacks. Remember to pick up some Japanese tableware to present your home-made sushi in style. If you’re a drinks buff, keep an eye out for sake and shochu-related events. Work up an appetite wandering round the rest of the show, then wander over to choose from our festival of food and drink!
Highlights include our celebration of Japan’s unique take on ‘cute’ , the UK Kawaii Star of the Year. Kawaii is one of the most used descriptive words in Japan: see what all the fuss is about.
Don’t miss the moving music of Joji Hirota, renowned for his powerful performances on the taiko drums. . There’s more music too, in the form of Hi Wa Mata Noboru （“The Sun Will Rise Again”）, composed to encourage support for the Tohoku region. Get a feel for Japan’s culture of technological innovation, too, by checking out the ITK Robot Show, which will introduce some amazing technology designed to make our lives easier. You can also pick up a book or two from JP-Books, who will have an extensive selection on offer.
