Brief outline | The local residents’ association in Sakihama, Sanriku-cho, a coastal area, will take the lead in supporting the creation of a recovery plan and process of consensus building, through activities to strengthen and revitalise the community. |
Rationale for project | Sakihama is a community of some 200 households. 46 homes were destroyed and the port and fishing fleet was also devastated. This project has emerged from various preliminary activities and aims to support implementation of specific recovery related projects while also giving emotional care and support to those affected. It will include:
The applicant organization has a strong track record in community building projects in depopulated areas of Iwate prefecture and is in a strong position to manage this activity. This project is particularly important in terms of local planning for recovery in facilitiating participation in the process of a wide range of people (including women). |
