Establishment of a local residents’ centre in Rikuzentakada-shi
|Organization||Respite House Hands|
|Period||1 December 2011- 31 March 2012 (4 months)|
|Amount||1.5 million yen|
|Brief outline||Activities to build the foundations of community activity in Rikuzentakada-shi, through the training of staff at the Rikuzentakada Community Activity Centre etc.|
|Rationale for project||Recovery plans for Rikuzentakada are being formulated. Many NPOs and NGOs have been carrying out activities in the town since the earthquake. However, there is no space which supports activities by local people for the recovery. There is also insufficient sharing of information and know how between the NPOs and NGOs working in the area on their own projects.
This project will include a training programme (10 days plus hands-on training for 2-3 months) for centre staff and for community support consultants from each area of temporary accommodation in Rikuzentakada.
A centre will be established in a shopping district in Rikuzentakada, supporting local residents’ activities and providing advice.
The applicant organization has experience of working with NPOs and regional network organizations and in management of a community activity centre in Ichinoseki, a town which borders on Rikuzentakada. This project will enable the creation of a base of support for initiatives undertaken across the whole district and allow transfer of knowledge across the community.
