Japan in Your Classroom Volunteers' Workshop
Using Powerpoint in the Classroom Wednesday, 14th May 2008 10.30am - 1.00pm Japan Foundation, Russell Square, London WC1B 5EH Free: Open to all Japan In Your Classroom volunteers and those who are interested in becoming volunteers. This workshop on 14th May is aimed at our Japan In Your Classroom (JIYC) volunteers, who support our educational activities by introducing Japanese culture to the UK classroom. The workshop, the last of our recent series, will focus on how to use Power Point when giving a presentation. As most UK classrooms now use a 'Smart Board' (interactive whiteboard) some of our volunteers have begun to use Power Point on their school visits. There are many benefits to be had from using Power Point to teach pupils about Japan. Large posters and maps can be presented digitally, photos and updated information can be showcased easily and content can be adapted easily to suit all age groups. However, many people are prevented from using this medium because of a lack of confidence in their computer skills or uncertainty about how to put materials together. The workshop will address these issues with a general explanation of how to use Power Point followed by a presentation from a volunteer group who are already using Power Point on their visits. Registration is open to existing JIYC members as well as those with an interest in becoming volunteers.
