St Paul' Cathedral:Guided tour and evensong

Monday, 13th October 2008, 6.00pm to 7.30pm
evensong from 5.00pm
St Paul's Cathedral, London EC4M 8AD
£20 per head payable in cash on the night (booking required)

Japan Society members are invited to join a private tour of St Paul's Cathedral, after it has closed to the public. As well as the parts of the Cathedral normally open to the public, the tour will include less well known areas, including a glimpse of the famous geometrical staircase, as well as a spectacular view from the West End down the Nave.

The visit culminates in the Trophy Room, where Wren's Great Model, based on an early plan for the Cathedral in the form of a Greek cross, is on display. You will be able to admire this intricate feat of craftsmanship which reflects the design Wren most desired for St Paul's, but which he was obliged to recast along more conventional lines to give us the magnificent St Paul's of today.

Members wishing to attend evensong at 5.00pm will have reserved seats in the front row. The tour will start at 6.00pm. We will reserve a restaurant nearby for those members who would like to have dinner (on a pay as you go basis) after the tour.

To reserve your place, please call the Japan Society office on 020 7828 6330 or email events@japansociety.org.uk .

Places are limited, so early booking is advised.
