The Society has four groups which focus on specialised interests
The Business Group
Our annual Business Programme, which provides for British and Japanese companies working in either country, is a significant focus and includes:
Lunches, with invited speakers, which are organised with colleagues in the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the UK
Lunchtime Lectures. A sandwich lunch in a city location listening to relevant and expert briefings.
Dinners with invited speakers, which are sufficiently small to allow off the record discussion, debate and straightforward questioning.
Younger Members Group
The Society offers low cost membership to students and recently returned participants in the 'Japan Exchange of Teaching' (JET) and other programmes. Its Younger Members Committee arranges, often in partnership with the JET Alumni Association, a wide variety of events suitable for the young-at-heart of whatever age.
The Art Circle
The Art Circle arranges visits, usually private viewings, to collections and exhibitions, and appeals to those members with a specific interest in art or who are themselves collectors.
The Conversation Group
The group meets monthly usually on the first Thursday of every month in a west-end pub and speaks only in Japanese. This becomes easier as the evening wears on and the Group has proved to be extremely popular, with about 50 participants attending.
