Yoshiro celebrated his hundredth birthday many years ago, but every morning before work he still goes running in the park with his rent-a-dog. He is one of the many aged-elderly in Japan and he might, he thinks, live forever.

We are delighted to announce that the Japan Society is collaborating with London Business School Japan Club to host a Japan Summit 2022 on Friday 11 November. An all-in-one conference and networking event, panelled by Japanese business and industry experts in Innovation and Sustainability, this is an excellent opportunity for Society membersto meet and engage with senior executives of major Japanese companies, as well as, leading academics in the field of business.

The Japan Society, in association with Ritsumeikan (UK), is pleased to once again welcome sixth form students back to an in-person Sixth Form Japan Day event. This event offers students the chance to experience hands on workshops with experts and listen to live speakers.

In anticipation of the England versus Japan match on November 12, please join us for an evening of Japanese Rugby with our guest of honour, director of the Japanese Rugby National Team, Yuichiro Fujii.

The Japan Society is pleased to welcome Yoshinori Shimatani, a fourth-generation master blacksmith from Takaoka, Japan’s centre of forged copperware since the 17th century for a special talk and demonstration, organised in conjunction with Toyama prefecture. Yoshinori will introduce the history and contemporary production practices and discuss how he re-invented the family business of making singing bowls (keisu) and now uses the ancient techniques in the creation of suzugami pewter ware. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the sound of singing bowls, watch a demonstration of contemporary pewter work and learn more about the culture of Toyama prefecture in which they are rooted.

The Japanese Conversation Group provides a friendly and informal atmosphere for Japanese speakers of all nationalities to come together and speak Japanese. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month.

The Japan Society is delighted to invite members and friends to a private view of the exhibition YOBITSUGI - Beyond Repair with co-curators Paul Carey-Kent and Yuki Miyake at White Conduit Projects.

With its origins mainly from Chinese traditional medicine, Japan established its own traditions and systems of treatments in an array of different situations over the course of its several time periods. These were further influenced by the indigenous belief system of the Japanese called Shinto as well as the arrival of Europeans into Japan, particularly Rangaku or “Dutch Learning.”
