First Prize for 3 students: Canon digital camera. Other prizes will also be awarded.

Visit the contest page to find out more.

Haiku are short poems, split over three lines, and usually contain a seasonal word. Composing haiku is a great way to take notice of the world around us and capture a moment in time. This year, we’d love to see haiku on this year’s theme of ‘Towns’.

How to Take Part

  • We invite everyone aged 15 and under to get involved. Visit our contest page to find out more and to download the application form.

  • This year we are looking for haiku on the theme of ‘towns’ and we encourage you to look at the places around you for inspiration. Any haiku connected to this theme is eligible.

  • Did you know that haiku don’t have to be 7-5-7 syllables in English? Check out our How to Haiku video and download the Beyond 7-5-7 booklet for more tips!

  • When you’re ready and have prepared your entry according to the guidelines on our contest page, send your entry to: Haiku Contest, The Japan Society, 13/14 Cornwall Terrace, London NW1 4QP
