In February 2026, Scottish Opera presents the world premiere of The Great Wave, a new opera by Japanese composer Dai Fujikura and Scottish librettist Harry Ross. Directed by Satoshi Miyagi, the work explores the life of Katsushika Hokusai, his artistic struggles, and his relationship with his daughter Ōi, tracing the creative journey behind The Great Wave off Kanagawa and its lasting global influence.

This event is intended not only as a commemoration of the Great East Japan Earthquake, but also as an opportunity to honour those affected by natural disasters around the world, to reflect on ongoing conflicts and tragic events in many regions, and to offer a collective prayer for global peace. This programme consists of a staged reading, screenplay and a musical performance. The English Sumo Nationals will be held on Saturday 28 March 2026, from 10am to 4pm at Brunel University of London, Uxbridge UB8 3PH.This is a selection event for the European Sumo Championships in Scotland in late June. There will be multiple categories per gender, so plenty of matches to enjoy!
