On Wednesday 28 August, we were pleased to welcome The Japan Society Members and guests to a special gallery tour of the Yoshida: Three Generations of Japanese Printmaking led by Dr Monika Hinkel at the Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Showcasing over 75 exquisite prints, the exhibition explored the evolution of Japanese printmaking across two centuries, featuring works by the Yoshida family—ranging from the rich, nostalgic landscapes of the renowned patriarch, Hiroshi, to the striking abstract creations of later generations.

Dr Monika Hinkel, a Lecturer and curator of Japanese Art as well as Convenor of the Arts of Japan and Korea module at SOAS-Alphawood, guided attendees through the exhibition, sharing details of the distinct talents, diverse printing techniques, and artistic innovations of each family member. Her insights offered attendees a valuable perspective on the recurring themes and stylistic variations that defined the Yoshida legacy.

Many thanks goes to Dr Monika Hinkel, Dulwich Picture Gallery, and all who joined us for making this event an enlightening and engaging experience.
