Summer Calligraphy Workshop - Photos

On Saturday 19 July 2025, we welcomed three small groups of members and friends to The Japan Society to take part in a calligraphy workshop to make a folding fan (sensu - 扇子).

Led by London-based calligrapher Yoko Takenami, participants were taught to write seasonal phrases in Japanese characters and learnt the basic skills of calligraphy tools such as ink and brush.  

By the end of the workshop, members of each group had created a unique and personal sensu which they could take home. The results were fantastic!
