New Year's Calligraphy Workshop - Photos

On Saturday 31 January 2026, we welcomed three small groups of members and friends to The Japan Society to take part in a New Year's Calligraphy Workshop to celebrate the Year of the Horse.

Led by London-based calligrapher Yoko Takenami, participants were taught to  create uplifting kanji (Chinese characters) and Japanese phrases on large sheets of calligraphy paper to welcome the year with positivity.

By the end of the workshop, members of each group had created a unique and personal Kakizome which they could take home. The results were amazing!
