Japanese Collections at Harcourt Arboretum - Photos

On Friday 9 October 2026, The Japan Society hosted a special visit to Harcourt Arboretum, part of the University of Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum. Led by Ben Jones, Arboretum Curator and Head of Arboriculture, members enjoyed a guided tour of the Arboretum's renowned Japanese collections of trees and plants.
The tour highlighted the Arboretum's longstanding links with Japan, particularly its collaboration and plant exchanges with Toyama Botanic Garden, Shinjuku Goyen National Garden and The University of Tokyo, among others. Guests heard how these partnerships have enriched the collections and contributed to the conservation of rare and endangered plant species, helping to safeguard important botanical heritage through international cooperation.
We would like to thank Ben Jones and the team at Harcourt Arboretum for their warm welcome and expert guidance, and all those who joined us for this enjoyable visit.
