Teaching Soroban Loan Scheme - Terms and Conditions
Before submitting a loan request, please read the following carefully.
Eligibility
The long-term loan scheme is intended for teachers and educators to introduce soroban to their students. All UK-based teachers or educators working in a school and involved in teaching numeracy or mathematics are eligible to are apply for a free teaching soroban loan.
Other education institutions or organisations may be eligible for a loan and can contact the education team for further information or submit an application form. It is recommended that non-school applicants provide sufficient detail to demonstrate how the teaching soroban will be used.
Please note that we are unable to lend teaching soroban to parents or for-profit organisations. If you are not eligible for a long-term teaching soroban loan, you may like to use our other soroban resources or request to borrow teaching soroban and individual soroban under our short-term loan. Terms and Conditions
Those participating in the loan scheme must agree to the following terms and conditions:
- To return a signed copy of the loan's Terms and Conditions to the Education Team. This form must be co-signed by a member of the senior leadership team of the school/organisation; in the event that the borrower leaves the school/organisation during the loan period, the co-signer will take over responsibility for the loan.
- Borrowers to complete short feedback forms when asked by The Japan Society, indicating how the loan soroban was used during the loan period. This will contribute to research evaluating how teaching soroban are being used within the UK education context.
- The soroban is loaned to the school/organisation stated on the loan form rather than the individual applicant; therefore it may not be transferred to another school/organisation.
- The borrower should inform the Japan Society before the end of the loan period (one academic year) if they would like to renew or return the loan.
- The borrower will make arrangements with the Japan Society to return the soroban at the end of the loan and ensure it is suitably packaged.
- Borrowers will take reasonable care in using the loaned item and return it in a similar condition to which it was borrowed. The school/organisation understands that they will be invoiced for lost teaching soroban.
