Please make a date to join us in the Grand Hall at One Great George Street for The Japan Society Annual Dinner. We are pleased to be able to get together once more and look forward to catching up with members and their guests.

First opened in 1913, One Great George Street is a building steeped in history. With it’s rich neo-Palladian and Baroque interiors, particular emphasis in the design was the desire to create the feeling of light and space throughout.

Many notable events have taken place here; The Queen visited in 1978 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the grant of the Institution’s first royal charter. HRH The Duke of Edinburgh sat his Royal Navy examinations in the Great Hall and in 1945 the signing of the charter establishing UNESCO also took place in that room.

As well as corporate and social events, One Great George Street is also used for special events including fashion shows, and has been used in a large number of films and television series.

The dinner is traditionally a black tie event and many guests will wear formal dress, but for those who prefer lounge suits, this is perfectly acceptable. Most people will be sitting at round tables of 10. If you have any seating preferences, please specify with whom you wish to be seated. Please also inform us of any special dietary requirements.

Our guest of honour will be Togo Igawa (トーゴ イガワ). He was a member of the Black Tent Theatre touring 120 cities in Japan. He moved to England in 1983 and became the first Japanese member of The Royal Shakespeare Company in 1986. Since then he has worked in numerous productions for film, TV, radio as well as stage. You might have seen him as Emperor Hirohito in The Crown

We are very grateful to JTI for their support which enables us to offer discounted tickets to members, ensuring that the event can be enjoyed by everyone.
