JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) London and The Japan Society are delighted to invite members and friends to our upcoming seminar discussing the issues and challenges regarding energy transition. Dr Ken Koyama, Chief Economist and Managing Director of Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ), will present an outline of the IEEJ’s flagship project on global energy demand and supply outlook until 2050. Professor Jonathan Stern of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies will join the discussion as a commentator.

Dr Ken Koyama is Chief Economist and Senior Managing Director at the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ). He is also Visiting Professor at Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Tokyo and Adjunct Professor at Institute of Innovative Research at Tokyo Institute of Technology. He has served as a member of energy policy-related advisory councils and committees for the Japanese government. He has published extensively in the area of energy economics and the world oil and gas market, for example Perspectives on Asian Oil Demand: Outlook and Uncertainties, Energy Supply-Demand and Challenges in Asia and Energy Policies in Asia. Dr. Koyama obtained his Ph.D from the University of Dundee, Scotland, and his BA and MA from the Waseda University, Japan. 

Professor Jonathan Stern founded the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies (OIES) Gas Research Programme in 2003 and was its Director until October 2011 when he became its Chairman and a Senior Research Fellow. He became a Distinguished Fellow at OIES in October 2016. He is honorary professor at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum & Mineral Law & Policy, University of Dundee and Fellow of the Energy Delta Institute and a Distinguished Research Fellow of the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (in Tokyo).
