Fuji Festival

Fuji Festival
Applicant: James Gamgee (JETAA Scotland)
Award: £500
Field: Education, Culture

Project:

The Fuji Festival, in its third year, was held at Castleview Primary School in Craigmillar, Edinburgh.  The festival exposes Japanese culture to students through a wide variety of Japan-related activities.  This year, about 200 students across P4 and P5 participated in karate, taiko drumming, Japanese language, playing with traditional toys and robots, making origami, and making sushi.

For Scottish youth, the continuity of the Fuji Festival, with the presence and assistance of the Japanese Consulate General’s office and other organisations such as Tsuchigumodaiko and JETAA, helps foster good relations and builds interest in Japan, and its language and culture.
