Project:

Following a successful Japan Day event held for pupils in 2015, interest in Japan and Japanese culture grew at Fraserburgh Academy. In order to broaden this interest, a weekly Japanese Club was started, held on Mondays at lunchtime for a group of pupils aged 12-15.

Alongside Japanese language tuition, pupils could take part in a wide range of craft activities including woodblock printing, sumi-e painting and sushi tasting. The pupils celebrated Children’s Day by creating their own koinobori (koi carp flags) and made dolls out of clay for Hinamatsuri (Doll’s Day). These activities were helped further by loan items from the Japan Society educational resources.

Student’s at Fraserburgh Academy showed a great enthusiasm for Japanese Club, which gave them a wider understanding of Japanese culture, and even starting using Japanese words to greet their teachers when passing in the corridors.
