Award: £850
Field: Arts, Culture, Education
Project:
A week long learning project for all pupils in two rural village primary schools (172 pupils aged 4-11 years) that connects with the two village communities.
The children took part in origami, calligraphy, haiku and karate workshops. As well as lectures and discussions on various topics.
They learnt about Japanese Folk Tales through discussion and a theatre performance: Tales from Old Japan by 1000 Cranes Theatre Company; and gained understanding of Japanese history while making origami cranes for display and learning of their symbolism.
Village communities were invited to see the display of cranes, helping to further extend the reach of the project and knowledge of this important part of Japanese history.
