NEW online course for UK Teachers - Japanese Abacus (Soroban)

The Japan Society is pleased to announce a new short online course for teachers at UK schools to learn all about the soroban, or Japanese abacus, led by experienced soroban teacher Tomoko Hoult. 

Teachers are invited to join the free short course for 5 weeks, 30 minute sessions from September 2023. 

The soroban is a great way to improve students' understanding of numbers and inject some fun and cross-cultural learning into regular numeracy or maths sessions. During the course, teachers will be given the chance to practise fundamental soroban techniques in a friendly and relaxed environment, and by the end will be able to run introductory soroban sessions for their own students.
