Exploring Japan: A Diplomatic Journey with Ambassador Paul Madden - Photos

On Thursday 6 June, we welcomed Paul Madden CMG FRGS, former British Ambassador to Japan, for an engaging discussion on his favourite experiences in Japan.
Members joined us to hear Paul share insights from his book, 三九 Sankyu Japan: Twittering thanks to Japan, which documents his travels and the connections he built with 30,000 twitter followers during his tenure. Paul's reflections on Japanese culture and his personal anecdotes provided a detailed and engaging account of his time in Japan as Ambassador.
Stephen Barber, a trustee of The Japan Society and the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, facilitated a lively discussion and Q&A session with the audience. Their exchange offered a deep dive into their own experiences and the nuances of Japanese culture.
The evening concluded with a sake reception, provided by Sake Samurai. Guests enjoyed the opportunity to purchase copies of Madden’s book, Sankyu Japan, adding a memorable keepsake to the evening.
The Japan Society would like to thank Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation for co-hosting this event.
