Private Tour at Sotheby’s London: Japanese Woodblock Prints - Photos

On Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 of July 2024, members and friends of The Japan Society visited Sotheby's London in Central London for a private tour of their Japanese Woodblock prints.

The group was taken on a tour of the collection by experts of Japanese studies and art, offering specialist insight into the works of renowned ukiyo-e artists such as Hokusai, Hiroshige, Utamaro, Harunobu and Hasui. Among the pieces available for viewing were works from Hokusai’s Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, including the artist’s most celebrated design Under the Wave off Kanagawa, also known as The Great Wave.
