Japan Fun Day at Cardiff Central Library - Photos

On Thursday 27 February 2025, The Japan Society Education Team partnered with Cardiff Central Library to host Japan Fun Day, a celebration of Japanese culture and activities for children, teenagers and their families.

Held during the half-term holiday, the event welcomed many families. Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed a variety of hands-on experiences, from traditional Japanese crafts and origami to playing with classic Japanese toys and games. Children also had the opportunity to write their names in Japanese and design their own ema (wishing boards), learning about the cultural significance behind these traditions.

Special workshops in Japanese calligraphy (shodo) and koto music provided an introduction to Japanese arts. In the calligraphy session, participants learned the basics of holding brushes, mixing ink and writing kanji characters. The koto workshop introduced participants to this traditional string instrument, allowing them to try playing simple melodies under expert guidance.
