Japanese Calligraphy and Origami Workshops at Westminster Reference Library – Photos
On Saturday 22 March 2025, The Japan Society were pleased to host calligraphy and origami workshops for children at Westminster Reference Library. It was our first time hosting an event at the library, and we were happy to see so many young participants, along with accompanying adults, engage with enthusiasm as they learn and practice some origami and calligraphy!
Children, joined by family members, learned how to create a variety of different origami designs with the help of our volunteers to guide them – some were even able to learn how to make an origami spinning top, which was perhaps one of the most challenging and intricate designs! In our calligraphy workshops, children learned how to write the word 桜 sakura (cherry blossom) in Japanese using traditional calligraphy brushes and ink, before going on to design their own calligraphy cards to take home with them. Overall, the day was a great success, and we were pleased to see so many children and families enjoy learning all about Japan!
The Japan Society would like to thank Westminster Reference Library, our lovely volunteers, and our generous Education Supporters for helping to make the event possible!
