On Monday 29 July 2025, we were pleased to welcome children, young people, and their families to our Japanese calligraphy (Shodo) workshops at St John’s Wood Library, as part of their schedule of family-friendly events and activities happening throughout the summer holidays.

Led by Aya Burbanks, participants were able to learn all about Shodo, a traditional form of Japanese calligraphy. They learned about some of the different styles of calligraphy before getting the chance to try writing two Kanji using traditional calligraphy brushes and ink – hana 花 (flower) and niwa 庭 (garden).

The Japan Society would like to thank St John’s Wood Library, Aya Burbanks, and our generous Education Supporters for helping to make the day a great success!
