Beyond the Dance: Symbolism and Aesthetics in Nihon Buyo - Photos

Beyond the Dance: Symbolism and Aesthetics in Nihon Buyo - Photos

On Thursday 4 December 2025, we were delighted to offer a rare opportunity to experience the cultural depth, symbolism, and artistry of nihon buyo (traditional Japanese dance), when we were joined by Chihiro Yoshimura, an award-winning dancer of kamigata-mai, which is a classical form of nihon buyo.

Our audience was introduced to nihon buyo through a short presentation and discussion, while being treated to live demonstrations and a short performance of Kiku no Tsuyu (“Chrysanthemum Dew”), a delicate piece celebrating autumn’s beauty and the fleeting nature of life through elegant fan work and subtle eye levels.

We are very grateful to everyone that attended, to Chihiro Yoshimura for joining us, and to Kayono-no-Kai who parterned with us on this special occasion.
