Edited by Janet Hunter and S. Sugiyama
Palgrave Macmillan (2002)
ISBN-10: 0333791975

This volume is concerned with the development of business and economic relations between Britain and Japan from the early seventeenth century up to the year 2000.

Following a comprehensive introduction written by editors Janet Hunter and S. Sugiyama, the volume contains eight more detailed chapters, written by British and Japanese scholars, each of which focus on a particular aspect of economic interaction.

Particular emphasis is placed on commodity trade, capital flows, and the transfer of knowledge and the overall balance of economic power between the two nations.

Mutual perceptions of economic strengths and weaknesses are also considered, and the economic relationship is located in the broader context of political and strategic interaction.
