We are delighted to invite you to join us in conversation with Rebecca Salter, artist and President of the Royal Academy of Arts. Rebecca spent six years living in Kyoto while studying at Kyoto City University of the Arts, where she trained in traditional Japanese woodblock printing under Professor Kurosaki Akira. She has since authored two books on the subject. In this discussion, Rebecca will reflect on her artistic and professional experiences in Japan and explore her ongoing engagement with Japanese art.

Rebecca Salter is the current President of the Royal Academy of Arts, a position she has held since 2019. She is the 27th President and the first woman to assume the role since the Academy's founding in 1768. In recognition of her contributions to the arts, she was appointed Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2025 New Year Honours.

Salter was elected as a Royal Academician in the category of Printmaker in December 2014 and became Keeper of the Royal Academy in June 2017. Her artistic practice integrates painting and printmaking, with a particular focus on the interplay between the two disciplines. Until 2016, she served as an Associate Lecturer on the MA Printmaking course at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London.

She exhibits regularly in London and internationally, and in 2011, her work was the subject of a major retrospective, into the light of things, at the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Connecticut.
