Yayoi lives with her perfect, loving family, but while her parents tell happy stories of her childhood, she is increasingly haunted by the sense that she's forgotten something important about her past. Deciding to take a break, she stays with her eccentric but beloved aunt Yukino. Living a life without order, Yukino seems to be protecting herself, but beneath this facade Yayoi starts to recover lost memories, and everything she knows about her past threatens to change forever.
Banana Yoshimoto, born in 1964 as Mahoko Yoshimoto, is a renowned Japanese author known for works like Kitchen, Goodbye Tsugumi, and Amrita. Raised in a literary household (her father was also a famous poet), she adopted her pen name from the flower "banana" for its whimsical sound. Yoshimoto's writing delicately explores love, loss, and self-discovery, captivating a global audience with her emotionally evocative prose. Her early success with Kitchen propelled her to literary stardom in the '80s, establishing her as a contemporary voice in Japanese literature. Yoshimoto's ability to illuminate life's intricacies resonates deeply, earning her widespread admiration.
