Comparing Localities - Rural and Urban Japan

Subject: Other Topics / Geography
Level: Key Stage 2 / Key Stage 1
Age: 7-11 years / 5-7 years
Resource Type: Activities / Presentations / Lesson Plans / Videos

Japan is often portrayed as a bustling metropolis full of people, bright lights and noise. Japanese cities are busy places, but not all of Japan is like this. Much of Japan is covered in forest and mountains and there are many towns and villages too. This resource works as a perfect introduction to Japan for pupils in Key Stages 1 and 2.

The video A Trip to the Japanese Countryside shows students a quieter side of Japan. Use it with the accompanying materials to show students different localities in Japan and allow them to compare rural and urban areas. Download all lesson resources (Zip File 26.4 MB) or see below for individual resources.

Please note that the PowerPoint Presentation is in Read-Only format, which will allow you to present the slideshow but not edit. For teachers who need editable version of any of the presentations for their classroom teaching, please contact us at education@japansociety.org.uk.
