Join us on Wednesday 30 November (and the last Wednesday of every month) for the next session in our long-running Bilingual Public Speaking Club (BPSC) - now in a new, more dynamic format!
The BPSC offers an interactive space to improve communication and presentation abilities in English and/or Japanese, learning techniques and tricks to develop confidence in speaking in public.
Every month we propose a topic in advance and invite participants to prepare a short speech (from 1 to 5 minutes) in the language of their choice (English or Japanese). It can be a structured presentation or just some spontaneous thoughts about the topic, the important point is to gain experience in public speaking and hone your language skills. Everyone will have the chance to speak and to interact with others, asking questions and giving feedback in an informal, friendly and supportive atmosphere. The new format and full details of the event will be explained to those attending beforehand via email and on the day.
The topic for the November session is “The Role of Sports in Society”. Like other forms of entertainment, sports are linked to social and political issues – can we really separate them, and if so, how? BPSC is open to anyone who is willing to speak in public in Japanese or in English. However, please note that you need knowledge of both languages to participate. The main focus of the Club is on developing public speaking skills, rather than language learning. As a minimum, you need to be able to hold a conversation in Japanese; the event is not suitable for beginners. Japanese native speakers and students of Japanese or English are encouraged to participate!
As well as public speaking, the Club is a great opportunity to get to know other members with similar interests, so why not join us beforehand at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese and we will walk the short distance over to Deloitte at 6.45pm.

長期にわたり開催してきたバイリンガル・パブリックスピーキングクラブ(BPSC) が、皆さんからのご意見を取り入れ、よりダイナミックで新しい形式として生まれ変わりました。毎月最終水曜日開催のセッションに是非お越しください。
BPSCは、人前や公の場で話すことに自信を持てるような技術や秘訣を学びながら、英語や日本語もしくは両方の言語におけるコミュニケーションとプレゼンテーション能力をお互いに高め合う機会として開催するものです。
毎月トピックを事前に用意し、参加者の皆さんに、英語もしくは日本語で1〜5分程度の短いスピーチをしていただきます。トピックに合わせて事前に構成を考え用意してきたスピーチを披露していただくのでも、その場でトピックについて考えたことをお話しいただくのでも構いません。重要なのは、人前で話すという体験を通して言語スキルを伸ばすということです。お互いに支えあう気楽で親しみやすい雰囲気の中で、参加者全員が発言し、他の参加者と交流し、質問や感想などを述べたりすることができます。この新しい形式やイベントの詳細については、事前にお知らせしますし、当日にもご説明します。
11月のトピックは「社会におけるスポーツの役割」です。他のエンターテイメントのように、スポーツも社会や政治的問題と切り離すことは困難です。スポーツと政治は切り離して成立するのでしょうか、もしそうであれば、どのように実現が可能になるでしょうか？次のようなページも是非参考にしてみてください。We need to separate sport and politics. このイベントは、人前で日本語もしくは英語で話す意欲がある方でしたら、どなたでも参加可能です。日本語と英語両方の理解力がある程度必要ですのでご留意ください。このクラブの目的は、言語を学ぶ場ではなく、あくまで人前で話をするパブリックスピーキングのスキルを高めることを目的としており、初心者向きではありません。日本語が母国語の方達や、日本語や英語を勉強中の学生さんたちも、是非ご参加ください。
パブリックスピーキングだけではなく、このクラブでは、同じ興味を持っている人たちが知り合いになることができる機会にもなります。早めに来ることが可能な方は、Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese にきていただき、皆さんで6時45分に会場に向かいます。
