Celebrate the start of 2022 with a five-course vegan Japanese lunch prepared by chef and cookery book writer Tim Anderson exclusively for Japan Society members and friends. Dishes will be prepared based on recipes from Your Home Izakaya and Vegan JapanEasy, two of Tim’s five books about Japanese food. This will be the perfect occasion to catch up with your friends, family and fellow Japan Society members over lunch, served Izakaya style.
The lunch menu includes a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options, selected by Pantechnicon’s Head Sommelier and sake kindly provided by Sake Samurai. Copies of Tim Anderson’s books will be available to purchase on the day, at a special price. Tim will be cooking on the day and available to sign books after lunch.
The lunch will be hosted in Pantechnicon’s Japanese restaurant, Sachi. Opened in Belgravia in September 2020, Pantechnicon has seven restaurants, bars, shops and cafés to discover, all inspired by the food, drink, creativity and craftsmanship of the Nordics and Japan.
Tim Anderson is a chef, writer, restaurateur, and MasterChef champion. Born and raised in Wisconsin, Tim has been studying Japanese food culture for more than two decades, first as a hobby, then as a profession. He majored in Japanese Studies at university, where he was awarded a grant to conduct independent research on local food museums in Japan. Subsequently, he lived in Fukuoka prefecture for two years to further develop his knowledge of Japanese food, and then moved to London, where he won MasterChef in 2011. He has since opened the Japanese ‘ramen izakaya’ restaurant Nanban, which inspired a book, Nanban: Japanese Soul Food. He is also the author of Your Home Izakaya, JapanEasy, Vegan JapanEasy and Tokyo Stories, for which Tim won the John Avery prize at the Andre Simon Awards.
Pantechnicon is the home of Nordic and Japanese creativity and craftsmanship in London, where guests can eat, drink, shop and explore. It houses two Japanese and Nordic design shops, the UK’s first Café Kitsuné, a roof garden bar and winter terrace, a Nordic bar and restaurant – Eldr (meaning ‘fire’ in Old Norse), Sakaya – a micro-bar and bottle shop, and Japanese restaurant, Sachi. Pantechnicon offers an ongoing programme of fun events where all ages can learn new skills from specialists in activities such as pottery making, origami, flower arranging and more.
