Greg Clark (Chair)
Greg Clark served as a Cabinet minister under three Prime Ministers, including for three years as Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. He was a senior minister for nearly a decade, including as Minister for Science and Universities, Financial Secretary to the Treasury and Minister of State at the Cabinet Office.
During his time as Secretary of State for Business, Greg made many visits to Japan to meet his counterparts in government as well as leading Japanese companies to further trade and investment links between the UK and Japan.Until the recent General Election Greg served as the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Japan.
Greg was elected Chair of the British-Japanese All Party Parliamentary Group, which brings together all MPs and Peers with an interest in Japan. During his tenure as Chair, Greg reached an agreement with The Japan Society that the Society would act as the secretariat of the Parliamentary Group.
Greg was Member of Parliament for Tunbridge Wells from 2005 to 2024. In the last Parliament he was Chair of the Science, Innovation and Technology Select Committee.
Greg has had a longstanding focus on science and technology and from October 2024 is the Executive Chair of Warwick Innovation, a new venture by the University of Warwick to accelerate its innovation and scientific discovery and to extend and deepen its relationships with UK and global industrial partners. In 2024, Greg has also been appointed as a member of the UK Government’s newly formed Industrial Strategy Advisory Council.
Born in Middlesbrough in 1967, Greg was educated in Economics at the University of Cambridge and was awarded his PhD at the London School of Economics. He is an Honorary Fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford. Greg began his career at the Boston Consulting Group and was Controller, Commercial Policy at the BBC before entering Parliament. Greg lives in Tunbridge Wells and London with his wife and three children.
