Joachim (Jo) Stobbs

Joachim (Jo) Stobbs has spent the past 25 years specialising in providing international tax and transaction advisory services to Japanese and international MNCs, including controversy support. He has been a partner in EY for over 10 years, in both Tokyo and London and is currently the UK & Ireland Leader of the Japan Business Services team across all service lines and Leader of the UKI-Asia East Trade Route which includes Japan.

Jo is Global Tax Account Leader on some of the largest Technology, Media and Telecoms Japanese groups for EY, and was previously the tax leader of the TMT Sector team in Japan. He has worked with many of the largest Japanese groups on acquisition and integration of UK businesses. From 2008-2011 he worked as the UK Desk in Tokyo and he was EY Japan ITS Partner from 2015-2020.

Jo is ATT and CTA qualified (Association of Taxation Technicians and Chartered Tax Advisor). He has a master’s degree from the University of Edinburgh and was also a JET in Kyoto for three years. He is a regular speaker at UK and Japan related tax events and has contributed to several articles in this area.
