The New Year is the biggest annual celebration in the Japanese calendar and it's a time when families get together to celebrate. Osechi ryori are traditional Japanese New Year's foods. They are eaten as the first meal of the new year and each one has a special symbolic meaning.

In these short talks, Tomomi Shimizu explains how the New Year holiday is typically spent in Japan as well as the different foods eaten and their meanings. The videos are in Japanese with English subtitles.
