To examine likely trends in relations between the world’s two superpowers, the US and China, and what these might mean for Japan, Japan Society chairman Bill Emmott is joined by Clyde Prestowitz, founder of the think-tank Economic Strategy Institute and veteran observer of Asian trade and politics, and Yuka Koshino, research fellow for Japanese Security and Defence Policy at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).

The current British Ambassador to Japan, Paul Madden, will complete his tour of duty at the end of February 2021. In his annual update for the Japan Society, Mr Madden will look back over his four years in Japan, as well as reflecting on the past eventful year in particular.

This lecture will start with the story of Elizabeth Anderson (1906-1993), who worked at Bletchley Park from 1939, learnt Japanese at the Bedford Japanese School and then was sent to Mauritius as a translator and teacher.

We are delighted to be partnering with The Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association on two special tutored tastings. This is an ideal opportunity for all members who would like to know a bit more about sake production, different styles of sake, and how to enjoy it on different occasions, especially at home.
