Work Experience

The Japan Society offers a limited number of work experience placements per year, held in the spring and summer. Please read the information and guidelines below carefully before applying.  

Placement Information 

  • Placement opportunities are available to those 18 or under, or those 21 and under if not in full-time education, employment or training. 
  • We are able to offer work experience placements for one week only. 
  • Placement weeks are full-time and are typically in-person at our office near Baker Street.  
  • Successful applicants typically have the opportunity to work with Events, Communications and Education Teams throughout the week.   
  • We actively welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, particularly those from underrepresented groups, including Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, disabled individuals, LGBTQ+ communities, care-experienced young people, and working class backgrounds.  
  • Travel bursaries of up to £10 per day are offered to successful applicants. 
  • Please note that the placement dates advertised cannot be changed. If the deadline for the current year’s placements has already passed, prospective applicants should apply in the next application period.
