The Japan Society

Highlights of 2022

In 2022, the Japan Society continued it's wide and varied programme of Japan-related activities and events, welcoming members and friends, both old and new. We were pleased to once again meet with members for an in-person Annual Dinner, this time taking place in the beautiful surroundings of the historic Chelsea Physic Garden. Local residents in Hammersmith enjoyed a day of fun and Japanese culture at the Japanese Garden Community Day in Hammersmith Park, and the Christmas Party at the Embassy of Japan saw members come together for a long overdue catch up and festive celebration.

Our education team worked on a range of new resources for schools, introduced families to Japanese poetry in an Easter Haiku Workshop, and paid a visit to schools with Tomoko Hoult to teach the wonders of the Soroban. We were also delighted to be able to hold our annual Sixth Form Japan Day in-person again and welcomed Sixth Form students from across the country.

Alongside regular events such as Book Club, Film Club, Japan Society Lectures, and our Webinar series, we offered creative workshops, special lunches, private exhibition tours, opportunities for careers networking, and more! Meanwhile, our ongoing collaborative poetry project Haiku Corner continued to go from strength to strength with entries reaching us from all over the world!

Highlights of just some of the events and activities from this year can be seen below (click the images for further details).
